Corporate Social Responsibility
Giving back to society is a trait deeply imbued in Serial System’s culture as we strongly believe in being a responsible corporate citizen. Our Corporate Social Responsibility (“CSR”) efforts have a broad reach, targeting the elderly, the poor and needy, as well as areas like medical, education, youth development, arts, culture and heritage.
Our CSR beneiciaries in Year 2018 included citizens’ councils, the PAP Community Foundation, the Stroke Support Station Ltd, the Halogen Foundation Singapore and Sian Chay Medical Institution. Altogether we contributed S$373,000 (approximately US$276,000) to various causes and organisations in Singapore.
The Elderly, Poor and Needy
For more than two decades now, we have been celebrating Lunar New Year every year with the senior citizens of Tai Pei Old Folks Home, bringing them “goody” bags, red packets and festive cheer.
During the year in review, Serial System donated a total of S$157,000 (US$117,000) to various charitable foundations/ programmes such as the ive Community Development Councils, People’s Association Community Centres, and Cheng Hong Welfare Service Society.
Medical, Education and Youth Development
From Year 2017, Serial System pledged to donate S$100,000 (US$73,000) annually to Sian Chay Medical Institution over a period of 10 years, amounting to S$1,000,000 (US$724,000), to help low-income families from all races and religion by sponsoring their Traditional Chinese Medicine consultations and treatments. The second tranche of S$100,000 (US$73,000) was disbursed in Year 2018.
In Year 2018, we donated S$20,000 (US$15,000) to Stroke Support Station (“S3”) Ltd to facilitate the rollout of new S3 technologies and therapies that can enhance chances of recovery for stroke victims with inancial challenges and help them recuperate faster. The fund aims to provide post-stroke care to stroke survivors and equip their caregivers with skills to help them re-integrate with society and the workforce. A donation of S$13,000 (US$10,000) was also made to the Singapore Association for Mental Health to reach out to youths with mental health conditions.
We also donated S$25,000 (US$18,000) to the World Learner Student Exchange Programme 2018, an educational collaboration between nEbO (the junior membership arm of NTUC ) and Best World International Limited to host students from rural areas of Sichuan, China for a short cultural immersion programme in Singapore.
We donated S$10,000 (US$8,000) to the Halogen Foundation Singapore, which aims to uplift youths from poor and marginalised families through leadership and entrepreneurship programmes so that they can have a better head-start in life and build their careers.
Other Contributions
In addition to supporting the poor and needy and various medical, education and youth development causes, Serial System also donated more than S$48,000 (US$35,000) in Year 2018 to other charitable funds, community programmes and organisations in Singapore. Included in the S$48,000 was an amount of S$30,000 (US$22,000) for Teo Chew Poit Ip Huay Kuan’s ASEAN Teochew Entrepreneur Award. This biennial award seeks to build a platform that not only creates an international network for business opportunities but also cultural and social engagement for Teochews across the globe.
